The Alex Clinic initiative was started as a way for the Surgical Society to give back to a local community that was in need of assistance.

After visiting the clinic and its staff, it became evident that our services could be put to use on an end-monthly basis when the workload is at its highest.

The program involves students ranging from third through sixth year working in both the trauma and obstetrics units on the last Friday of every month.

Transport for the visits has generously been provided by ABSA and supervision at the clinic is facilitated by the head doctor on call that night. Students are briefed on arrival regarding necessary details for the night.

This initiative gives students an opportunity to learn from seniors and gives seniors an opportunity to revise and develop themselves as they teach juniors.
